Light vs dark

He uses light and dark to set the tone hopeful on Lucie and Dr. Manette's relationship. In A Tale of Two Citties Dr. Manette says,"You can bear a little more light"(Dickens, 30). He says this b/c the light is Mr. Lorry and Lucie when they walk in brightening his mood. This also shows that the future will be better. The narrator says,"He turned her full to the light, and looked at her"(Dickens, 33). The narrator says this b/c he wants to show how he loves her and she loves him. Finally, In the book Lucie says,"O sir, at another time you shall know my name . . . Kiss me, Kiss me"(Dickens, 34). This shows how she loves him and how she wants it to work. That is how he sets the tone hopeful.

Wine shop

In A Tale of Two Cityies, Charles Dickens hints forshadowing b/c he talks about who 3 men in the wine shop are called Jacques and not b/c they all have the same name. This name represents the peasant uprising in 1358. It also shows how the poor people and people living in poverty are going to rise above the rich. Since people with money can banish or send people to jail with letters de cachet. In the book it says, "It was the worst of times, it was the best of times, it wa stew age of wisdom, it was the epoch of incredulity…"(Dickens, 6). This shows how bad times were to come b/c of the plan to overcome the rich. In the tale I says, "Out of the midst of them, the ghostly face would rise…"(Dickens, 12). This also shows foreshadowing b/c it describes the poor people rising from being invisible to having a voice. Finally, In the book it says, "A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other"( Dickens, 14). This shows foreshadowing b/c it talks about how all people are mysterious and can not be trusted. That is who it shows foreshadowing.
